Q1. The Ford Motor Company could not use the name Ford Mustang in one major overseas market until 1978 because the name was copyrighted by a truck manufacturer.

Can you name the country where Ford had this naming problem with their Ford Mustang.

A. This occured in Germany because the name Mustang it was owned by Krupp, which had manufactured trucks between 1951 and 1964 with the same name Mustang. Ford refused to buy the name for about USD$10,000 from Krupp at the time. Kreidler, a manufacturer of mopeds, also used the name so Mustang was sold in Germany as the "T-5" until December 1978.

Q2. In what year was leaded petrol phased out in Australia ?

A. Leaded petrol was phased out nationally by 1 January 2002. Western Australia had phased out leaded petrol on 1 January 2000 and Queensland by 1 March 2001.

Q3. In 1973 Peter Brock finished in second place in the Bathurst 1000 driving his Holden Torana XU-1 following a problem with the car whilst in a leading position. The problem was then solved by his co-driver in a novel way.

What was the problem encountered by the XU-1 and how was it rectified by his co-driver ?

A. Brock and teammate Chivas were far out front in the lead and on track to score yet another victory for Holden’s ‘pocket rocket’ Torana XU-1, only to be beaten by Moffat’s hard-top GT after Chivas at the wheel of the XU-1 ran out of fuel. This was due to a miscalculation that originated from a broken fuel gauge and the team order to get maximum laps out of the little XU-1 before pitting. The XU-1 came to a halt just before pit straight, with Chivas pushing the XU-1 into the pits unable to be assisted by his pit-crew which under the rules would have resulted in the Brock/Chivas XU-1 being disqualified.

By the time the XU-1 was refueled, Moffat had passed the stricken XU-1 and was gaining a sizable lead. After being released from pitlane, Brock set off in hot pursuit of the Moffat's Falcon GT. But Brock’s heroic effort, equal to that of Chivas’ pit-lane adventure, proved too little, too late. Brock’s XU-1 suffered a deflating tyre, thus enabling Moffat to hold on and claim yet another Falcon victory, his third in only four years
