EQC gets 5 Stars

Mercedes-Benz’s first all-electric production vehicle, the EQC, has been awarded the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating and achieved high scores in each of the key areas of the ANCAP assessment, including a record-equalling score of 92% for Child Occupant Protection.

The scores were:

96% - Adult Occupant Protection
92% - Child Occupant Protection
75% - Vulnerable Road User Protection
76% - Safety Assist

The EQC scored almost maximum points for its ability to physically protect child occupants as well as its ability to safely accommodate a range of child restraints in the second row.

The EQC hits Australian showrooms on December 9, with Australia chosen to be one of the first markets to receive stock of Mercedes’ first all-electric vehicle.

It features an 80kW lithium-ion battery rated for 21.5kWh/100km energy consumption, giving up to 434km driving range according to Mercedes-Benz.

With two 150kW motors delivering 760Nm torque, the EQC can accelerate from 0-100km/hr in 5.1 seconds and will charge at a rate of up to 110kW resulting in up to 220km range in just 30 minutes. The charge-rate at home is at 7.4kW which will give you 15km range every 30 minutes using a specially installed wall-box.

The EQC uses a special rubber dampener system to reduce the transmission of electric whine into the cabin, while acoustic glass on the windscreen and side windows further reduces wind and road noise. The result is a SUV that is much quieter than most luxury cars.

The development of the electric Mercedes SUV required more than 450 prototypes and 2.5 million kilometres of testing — which was double that of a normal Mercedes model.
