Nissan X-Trail now comes with three-cylinder engine

Next years Nissan X-Trail in the USA will come with just three-cylinder courtesy of a high-tech variable-compression

At this stage it is unclear whether this new engine arrangement will be released in Australia.

The new turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine develops 150kW and 305Nm which is an increase over the
126kW/233Nm of the 2.5-litre four-cylinder in Australia's current-generation X-Trail.

If the 150kw three cylinder engine does finds its way in local dealerships here it will compete well with the existing engine sizes of rivals models from Mazda (140kW/252Nm), Hyundai (132kW/265Nm), Haval (150kW/320Nm) and Toyota 127kW
