Q1. In what year did the Chevrolet powered Holden Monaro GTS win the Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Bathurst for the first time. ?
A. In 1968 the Monaro claimed a popular maiden victory on its debut as well as Holden's first ever Bathurst win in the Great Race at Bathurst then known as the Hardie-Ferodo 500.
In response to Ford's successful 1967 Bathurst victory in a V8-powered Falcon GT, Holden had entered the all new Monaro GTS based largely on the HK-model four-door Kingswood family car at the time, but developed as a high-performance two-door, V8 coupe' that was fun and affordable to drive.
The new coupe was engineered with the ability to win Bathurst and was fitted with a 327 cubic inch Chevrolet-sourced V8 (as the 'GTS 327' name implies) which enabled the new hi-po coupe' to outperform the updated yet comparatively smaller engined 302 cubic inch Falcon GTs.

A. Lancia - the First retractable hardtop was a feature on the 1934 Pourtout Lancia Belna Eclipse. |
