The Queensland Chevrolet Car Club Inc and other South East Queensland car clubs have joined forces to organise a huge car cruise to support the people of the Lockyer Valley on Saturday 5 March 2011.
The cars will drive en masse to Grantham to directly support the local flood survivors by presenting a large donation, goods and other special gifts. This concept has come together in the past two weeks with help from Brisbane and overseas companies. The club has managed to arrange support in many ways for the locals in conjunction with the Grantham State School P & C. With the support of as many members as possible, the S.E. car club community can make a significant difference to the lives of the people in Grantham. Club president Elton Walker said “This is your chance to stand up and be counted as a very caring (car loving) Australian and support your fellow Queenslanders in these dire times. Chev Club members know other like minded car lovers who were hit quite hard in Grantham. There are two families in Grantham who belong to the Toowoomba Hot Rodders club and Fine Iron Rod and Custom club in Ipswich. Now is the time for ‘sister clubs’ to come to their aid as well as support the wider community”.
On Saturday 5th March 2011, a car cruise will leave Brisbane at 9am from Logan West Community Centre, Wineglass Drive, Hillcrest and travel via Springfield, Ipswich, Rosewood, Laidley and Gatton and arrive at Grantham around noon, picking up goods, more cars, street machines and hot rods on the way. Gold Coast based cars will leave from Ferry Rd Diner Southport at 8am. Cars will also arrive from Toowoomba and the Darling Downs region. All cars will be parked in and around the school grounds for an impromptu free car show. Money raised and goods collected so far include: Queensland Chevrolet club: Donating $5000 minimum (Proceeds from our Swap Meet on 30 January and a generous top up donation from the club) Donated clothing, car accessories and other goods from Hot Rod Hotline in America (they saw the flood events on TV in the States and wanted to help) will be raffled until 5 March and all proceeds will be donated. A ute load of sporting equipment donated by Struddys Sports Store for the Grantham School. One very special gift valued at over $5000 will be presented to the school. Australian Country Choice will donate sausages for a massive BBQ (gold coin donation) put on by the Chev Club and the Grantham school P & C. All the proceeds and goods donated will be distributed by the P&C directly to those in most need in Grantham. Any car club members out there - persuade your members to donate goods or money and/or join the cruise and support a great cause.
Cars will arrive at Grantham State School around noon.
